I fail to see how getting into a fight with the most loyal of his few remaining supporters, in defence of the international community (with whom he is often at odds) is convenient for him. But OK.

A good point, but I still don't get what his angle is here. Is he having some kind of crisis of conscience at the end of his term? Is he trying to win back some international credibility for the next prez to build on? I just don't get it!
I mean, presumably he is going to retire in Texas, so i would imagine he would want to stay well like there. But then I supppose he is originally a New England boy, so maybe he's just gonna go up there and live.
It just seems like a really weird move to make!
